Its gives me great pleasure and honour to announce the launching of the 2009 Marlin World Cup Competition. Once again, the Marlin World Cup, the most prestigious deep sea fishing competition in this part of the world, promises a lot of excitement and thrill. The 2009 competition will be held from 15 th to the 21 st February

Will you be the angler to get your name on the coveted trophy of the Marlin World Cup? I have the pleasure to invite you to enrol for the 23rd edition of the Marlin World Cup as early as possible as the number of teams is limited.

As in the preceding years, the Marlin World Cup will be adjudicated in accordance with the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) and will depart from Le Morne Anglers Club which is situated at the mouth of the Black River which flows into the sea at the south-west tip of the island. This region is well known for its abundance of fish- especially Marlin, be they blue, black or stripped, or even Sailfish, especially in the summer.

Prizes include the Marlin World Cup Trophy, gold silver and bronze Marlin trophies, airline tickets and accommodation at Sugar Beach Resort. Our main sponsors are Sugar Beach Resort and Air Mauritius .

Open to anglers of all abilities, the Marlin World Cup is an important venue in the IGFA Offshore Championship Circuit – an international fishing competition. The winner of the Marlin World Cup 2009 will be invited, at their own costs, to bring their team of up to four anglers to compete in this prestigious championship circuit in Mexico . The event for the 2009 IGFA Offshore World Championship to be held in Cabo San Lucas , Mexico , May 10-15, 2009

The Marlin World Cup also offers your family the possibility to enjoy the exceptional facilities of Sugar Beach Resort, recently renovated, and discover all the wealth of this unique island through the tours organized by White Sand Tours. The Marlin World Cup, with its tense competition, friendly atmosphere and theme nights is the competition that fulfils all aspirations.

The competition will also remain a total Release event for Billfish.
